A surface that never moves

Wood panel is the old way — birch, poplar, or aluminum — and it doesn't sag, shrink, or bounce back the way canvas does.

What we use

birch     cradle or flat, 1/8" and up
aluminum  for enamel and gouache
gesso     oil-based ground
edges     waxed, or left natural

Why it matters

For fine detail and long life, panel is unbeatable. The old masters knew it — we just have better saws.
