Oil

Slow, forgiving, and luminous — the studio's first love.

The medium

Oil is the studio's first love — slow, forgiving, and luminous. It dries over days, not minutes, so you can push a wet edge until it's right.

How we teach it

pigment ground in linseed, or alkyd
surface stretched linen or panel
layering fat over lean, always
cleanup turpentine, then soap

When to choose it

When you want depth. Oil holds light the way water holds a reflection — layer after layer of it, until the surface starts to glow.
